Smart candidates don't invoke the possibility of their opponents being killed. This seems so obvious it shouldn't need to be said, but apparently, it needs to be said.
"We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California," Hillary Clinton said yesterday, referencing the fact that past nomination contests have stretched into June to explain why she hasn't heeded calls to exit the Democratic race.
The reaction, if you haven't heard by now, was swift across the spectrum. It included Clinton drawing the ire of the Olbermannator:
Clinton's comments would go in a gaffe file, if it weren't for her numerous other attempts at veiled race baiting, and weaseling around the "Obama as a secret Muslim" question. Yes all these "oops" moments together add up to one thing; Clinton is appealing to the most appalling parts of our society, and ourselves, in order to win a nomination that is out of her grasp. She is behaving in a way that is simply unacceptable for modern society, and it is proof positive of why she should not be the nominee.
